Dawn Whitney is Founder and CEO of both EmPower Nursing & Allied Solutions and EmPower HealthIT (formerly MotivAction Recruiting) based in Portland, Oregon. She started EmPower HealthIT in 2005 from her dining room table with one employee based in New York that is still an active Recruiter with EmPower HealthIT. Each year the business has grown exponentially even during the recent “down years” in staffing (2008-2009). Between 2011 and 2012, her business grew 47% fueled mostly by long term clients that have used her team to staff for new consulting engagements across the US. In 2015, her company expanded and grew 32% from 2014! EmPower HealthIT’s primary business is Direct Hire placements, Consulting Engagements and Executive Retained Search. Dawn is responsible for the daily operations, management of staff, recruitment, new business development and ongoing client relationships. Her organization includes a team of specialized Healthcare Informatics Recruiters that focus exclusively in their respective staffing discipline. In addition to a local team, she has “virtual” recruiters scattered across the US to assist in filling the diverse needs of her clients. Dawn formed the company after 15 years of success in the staffing industry for two publicly traded organizations. While serving as a Vice President at her most recent position, World Health, she was personally responsible for the oversight of the firm’s Healthcare Informatics division, which produced annual revenue in excess of $6 million within its first 8 months of “start-up” operation. Her business development, leadership and a results-oriented philosophy assisted in fueling the organization’s fast growth within the healthcare sector.
Prior to World Heath, Dawn was National Executive Director for Hall Kinion (now KForce) with responsibilities for a $30M business unit which included several offices across the US. Her specialty within Hall Kinion was to open new offices, assist them to profitability quickly and to turnaround stagnant, non-productive offices. She became an expert in teaching and mentoring other recruiters, and account managers that quickly grew into top performers within the company. In addition to her training, sales and expansion responsibilities, she was extremely successful in growing business units and developing leaders. She was a top performer several years in a row running her own book of business while training and mentoring others.
Dawn’s newest venture started November 2, 2015 as another start-up within the Healthcare market. Her clients were asking her to assist them in staffing Travel Nurses and Allied Health staff within their hospitals. She investigated and considered several nursing company acquisitions, yet, settled on starting another successful company from the ground up once again. She hired several experts within the nursing space, including an RN that is recruiting other RN’s and in her first week of the launch, landed eight new clients. Her team created the name of the new company, as a division of EmPower HealthIT, that best embodied their culture and belief system. This company is called EmPower Nursing and Allied Solutions. They staff travelers and direct hire professionals within the nursing and allied health space. We are excited about the growth and expansion of these two companies in 2016 and beyond. Dawn and her husband Ryan live in Portland, Oregon and LaQuinta, California. Their 21 year old son, Cole, is a successful employee of EmPower Nursing & Allied Solutions and also resides in Portland.
Kim Lindauer joined EmPower Nursing & Allied Solutions as Senior Vice President. She brings her expertise in managing start-up operations, business development and clinical staff recruiting. Lindauer knows the ins and outs of healthcare staffing as she has over 16 years of experience in both recruiting and managerial positions. Prior to starting her career in recruiting, Lindauer worked at Mayo Medical Center in Rochester, MN.
Kim kicked off her career as a healthcare recruiter for healthcare professionals, but was appointed to account manager just after a year. As account manager she ensured growth and profitability and increased office revenue by 33% in her first year. Kim held several positions with Maxim before joining EmPower and is a 12 time annual stock winner for financial excellence and compliance. Kim, her husband Chris and her two children Linsey and Taylor relocated from Madison, WI to Portland, OR in August of 1999. She enjoys playing basketball, watching sports and traveling with her family. Kim brings a unique value to the team and their clients.

1999 – 2000: Healthcare Recruiter for 1 year – recruited for healthcare professionals
2001 – 2006: Account Manager of Staffing Division office 5 years – responsible for sales, operations and overall leadership of office
General Manager of Homecare Division office – responsible for sales, operations, leadership of recruiting team and compliance with state regulations for homecare licensing
Administrative Officer – Responsible for management of Recruiting/Sales team, Clinical Team and Administrative team. Assisted with the closure of 2 branch offices, in addition to transitioning and absorbing clients from those offices during that time.
Diane Tooze Storer works at EmPower Nursing & Allied Solutions as our Bookkeeper and Contract Manager. She has been the Bookkeeper and owner of her own family construction business for the last 10 years. Her attention to detail, love of math and desire to be in a positive team environment made it a perfect match for us! She is willing to help in many areas of the business and will help with a smile! Aside from work, Diane likes to find great places to eat, enjoy the outdoors and play with her friends and family (husband Tyler, daughter Kalia & son Emerson).
Fatimah comes to EmPower Nursing & Allied Solutions with over 5 years of experience with OHSU in the Interpreter Services Department. She is an expert in the medical field with exemplary organizational skills. After spending time managing internal communications for both EmPower HealthIT and EmPower Nursing & Allied Solutions, Fatimah joined the nursing team full time as a nurse recruiter. Fatimah moved to the East Bay for two years and recently moved back to Oregon, calling it home. She comes from a huge Lebanese family and values the time spent with them. Fatimah loves to take care of others, especially when she is the host of a party. On her time off she enjoys cooking for friends and traveling to new cities.
Maddie joined the EmPower Nursing team in August 2016 as a sourcer/staffing specialist and quickly transitioned to a recruiter due to her outstanding people skills and ability to learn quickly. Maddie is a currently a fourth-year nursing student at the University of Portland, and brings her knowledge of the nursing field to our company. She plans to be a postpartum nurse after graduating in 2018. Maddie’s witty personality constantly keeps us on our toes – she is outgoing and loves to be surrounded by people.
Halsea is one of our Nurse Recruiters. She is energized by meeting new people. Her degree in communication and background in sales is what led her to pursuing a career in the recruiting field. Halsea values spending time with her family, close friends, and her dog, Benny. She enjoys cooking, being on the water, and is always up for a round of golf in the summer.
Marie recently joined our team working as a Social Media Specialist and a sourcer/staffing specialist. She graduated from the University of Portland where she got a degree in Psychology. It was in previous jobs that she found a passion for social media marketing and decided to pursue it as a career. In her free time Marie loves to do anything that gets her outside; whether that be running, hiking, biking or skiing.
